Ogele

The 'ogele' (also known as 'ogene') is a bell-shaped, iron idiophone instrument. The metal gong was fashioned by expert blacksmiths and is struck with a piece of wood in order to create its unique sound.

In Igboland, the ogele is popular amongst the peoples who reside in what are now Enugu and parts of Anambra. Amongst the peoples of Enugu (who are generally referred to as 'Ndi Waawa' because of the way they say 'no' with 'waawa') a genre of traditional music known as Ogene has thrived for time immemorial. This genre of music has gained world-wide popularity, as Ogene dance troupes have performed in numerous cultural occasions throughout the world.
